The Book on Formulaic Communication

Language is an effective tool for communication between executive leaders and others. Formulaic communication is communication for the global changes in the Information Age that are different because of the advent of the Internet. The new ways to communicate integrate social communication with professional communication. Team Communication

Have you ever thought about what would happen if the communication in the workplace was not supported? For example, if emails were allowed to be sent with no subject line what would happen? Likely more SPAM. Workplace training helps prevent accidents from happening when people do not know how to do a certain thing. Even as routine as sending out emails. Workplace Training and Taxonomy

Employee communication must be understandable.

Do We Get An Extension?

Business Leadership

Communication for business leaders can be confusing. How does a business leader know when he/she has given definitive instructions? How does he/she know if the off-hand comment was taken the right way? Taxonomy teaches about words. This is important because words express meaning.

What if the word has different meanings? For example, in Geology – the word ‘extension’ means an increase in the length of a line during deformation. Biology does not include the word ‘extension’ but has a similar word ‘extensor’ which means muscle or tendon straightening a joint. Neither is the word found in the physics dictionary. In the chemistry dictionary a close word is ‘extender’ meaning a material used to dilute or extend or change the properties of resins, ceramics or paints. This presents a challenge for the manager who does not have access to the geology dictionary. Read more…

Giving Away Free Coupons Can Actually Do Your Business More Harm Than Good.

Oh Yes it's free

Really Free?

Women’s clothing stores are notorious for giving special discounts but when you go to redeem them they are outdated, not applicable and plainly no good. For Example, xxxisma gave me a bonus coupon of $20. I went to the Market Mall outlet to redeem the coupon and the manager said that the computer would not accept the entry because the coupon code was ineffective. It was not reasonable. My selected necklace was an exact match – $20. The coupon was $20. I was willing to pay for the GST. The manager insisted that I purchase a higher priced item to use the code. She needed training in better employee communication.

After much frustration, I asked for her to phone head office. She complied. They gave her further instructions. She tried again and was successful in entering the code and I walked away with my free item. But the cost to me was about 10 minutes, feeling hassled and unhappy. So, in the end was the free coupon worth it? So, what would be a better solution for companies that want to give a freebie? I suggest an immediate discount of purchase would be more appropriate. Or better yet, invest in workplace training for your employees to learn how to communicate more effectively with their customers.
